ABOUT

Why am I running for School Board?

The most influential people in my life are educators. Both of my parents retired after teaching at public schools for more than 40 years, and my wife is a former MNPS school teacher of 4 years.

My biggest reason: I'm a dad. As my three young daughters begin their academic journeys, with my eldest starting Kindergarten this fall at our neighborhood MNPS school, I have a vested interest in making Metro Nashville Public Schools as strong as it can be.

I feel compelled to run for School Board, not as a political stepping stone, but because this is where change needs to occur in order to ensure the brightest future for our children, society, and country. I've lived in District 2 for twenty years and have deep roots in this community. I share the concerns of my friends and neighbors about the chaos and mismanagement seen in MNPS during the pandemic, but I need to do more than complain or worry. It's time to be part of the solution.

If elected, I would herald the voice of parents, advocate for all children, and support our teachers and staff with steadfast resolve.

The B-C-D-E Plan

BUDGET

MNPS needs a complete and thorough audit of current spending and allocations to ensure efficiency and maximum return of taxpayer dollars. Parents and voters deserve transparency and accountability when it comes to MNPS spending.

COMMUNICATION

We must improve transparent communication between the School Board, school administrators, teachers, and parents. Our kids need the adults in their lives to work together in respectful cooperation, where leaders listen and respond with courage and humility.

DISCIPLINE

We must work together to restore respect and discipline as virtues in our schools. School communities should have a say in how to foster positive environments for educators and students. Partnership between school administration and parents/caregivers is essential.

EDUCATION

Focus on fundamentals like improving literacy, math, and science competencies. Remove controversial agendas from the classroom (CRT, sexual and gender ideology). Allow teachers to teach and inspire instead of using scripted lessons. No mask mandates, ever.

EDUCATION

Originally from Ocala, FL, I graduated from high school in Des Moines, IA, and attended public schools throughout my entire childhood.  After earning my degree in Finance from the University of Florida, I went on to receive a Master’s degree in International Finance, studying in The Netherlands and Sweden.

PROFESSIONAL

I moved to Nashville in 2003 and opened a branch of Farmers Insurance – Pembroke Agency.  As owner/operator for the past 10 years, I have grown the business with honesty, customer service and earning the trust of clients.  Additionally, I joined the TN Army National Guard in 2010, graduated from Officer Candidate School in 2012, and trained at numerous locations nationwide with the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment.  As a Captain and former Company Commander at a unit in Humboldt, TN, I currently serve at the headquarters unit in Columbia, TN.

PERSONAL

My wife, Jennifer, and I have been married for eight years and have been blessed with three beautiful girls: Summer (5), Adeline (3) and Penny (6 months).  The most important role I have in life is as a father and husband. A Nashville native, Jennifer was an MNPS teacher for four years before “temporary retirement” to take care of our family. My mother and stepfather are both retired public school teachers, as well.
